It’s the dawning of a new year. We are faced with yet another year, it seems, like no year we’ve ever seen before. COVID is still a thing. We have navigated the ups and downs of doing life in the Coronavirus era with some uncertainty about how the future looks. Yet, we try to remain confident and hopeful that better days are ahead. Life situations like this provide opportunity for reflection and growth. It is up to us to decide how we will respond.
This year our theme is Grow 22. While growth can be very organic, happening without any real purposeful steps being implemented, I’m thinking that personal growth can be a bit different. It is intentional. A farmer or gardener decides what they want to produce, where they are going to produce it, and how they can produce it. They might consider if the soil and climate/environment is prime for this, what does the plant need to grow?
Want to Grow in ‘22? Consider these 5 steps,
- Be intentional about your growth goal. In what area do you want to grow or develop this year?
- Consider the season to grow. Growth takes time. Is this the right time for you to actively pursue change? Or is this more of a “seed planting” season?
- Nurture the seedling. During this phase the seedling can be fragile and needs more of your attention. Sprouting is happening.
- Assess your growth and prune or transplant. You’re growing! Consider what is needed in the next phase of growth.
- Harvest! Recognize your hard work.Celebrate growth. Celebrate accomplishments.
You may be reading this and thinking about your own growth or personal development. It is intentional. It involves a process of reflecting, being honest with ourselves, and identifying our vulnerabilities as well as needs which might result in goals. As we focus on growth in 2022, we challenge you to consider how you’d like to grow. In what areas of personal growth do you want to excel? As a person, as a partner or spouse, as a parent or caregiver? In your career or in your personal life? What relationship(s) do you want to develop?
